Welcome to OUR KENNEL

Welcome to Arctic Borealis Huskies – a family-owned husky kennel nestled in the peaceful wilderness of Pohjasperä, near Ranua in Finnish Lapland.

Founded in 2006, our kennel is built on a lifelong passion for sled dogs and over 30 years of experience in the tourism industry. Arctic Borealis Huskies is run by Lionel and Milla together with their children, Aarni and Lumi, and of course the true heart of our family – our wonderful team of huskies. We also share our home with a few much-loved house dogs who are very much part of the family.

For us, huskies are far more than work – they are a way of life. Our children have grown up alongside the dogs, spending time in the kennel long before they could even walk. Every member of our family shares a genuine love for these incredible animals, and many of our happiest moments happen outside working hours, whether we're exploring the forests together, training our dogs or taking part in sled dog races.

When you visit Arctic Borealis Huskies, you're not simply joining a safari – you're stepping into our everyday life. We welcome every guest as we would welcome friends, sharing our passion for sled dogs, the quiet beauty of Lapland and unforgettable moments in nature.

OUR STORY

Our Story

Every great adventure has a beginning, and ours started in 1996.

That was the year Lionel left his home in Alsace, France, and moved to Finnish Lapland together with his father, Thomas, and 24 huskies. They settled in Muonio, where they worked as sled dog guides and discovered a way of life that would shape the future of our family.

A few years later, Milla began working at the very same husky farm. It was there that Lionel and Milla met. What started with a shared passion for sled dogs soon became the beginning of a life together.

In 2006, Lionel, Milla and Thomas moved to the peaceful village of Pohjasperä, near Ranua, with a dream of building a kennel of their own. That dream became Arctic Borealis Huskies.

In the early years, we offered multi-day husky adventures, snowmobile safaris, accommodation and a variety of winter experiences, welcoming guests from around the world to discover the magic of Lapland.

As our family grew, so did our kennel. In 2016, we began operating winter husky safaris from the Wild Arctic Husky Park next to Ranua Zoo, making our experiences more accessible while continuing to offer the personal atmosphere that has always been at the heart of our company.

In 2019, we expanded our activities beyond the snowy season and began welcoming guests all year round. Today, visitors can experience life at our family kennel in every season, whether enjoying the midnight sun of summer, the colourful forests of autumn or the snowy silence of winter.

Looking back, it's hard to believe that everything began with one family, one journey from France and twenty-four huskies.

More than thirty years later, our passion remains exactly the same: sharing unforgettable moments with our dogs and introducing guests from around the world to the beauty of Finnish Lapland.
